Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap for this second Sunday of Advent. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page, or here below.

Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Bobby Gilles preached the temptation of Jesus from Matthew 4:1-12 in our series from Matthew 3-4, HIStory: Finding The More You Were Made ForTo learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Welcome to Sojourn! I’m______ when we gather… hear God’s word and let them capture your imagination:

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”

13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”

14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
-Revelation 5:11-14 NIV

Let’s raise our song to he who sits on the throne!

CONFESSION (Rom 1, Rev. 4:11, Ps. 32:5)

When we worship our King of Glory, we say both a “yes” to him, and a “no” to all the other things that demand our praise. Let’s take a moment and ask ourselves what demands our praise. What are we devoting our lives to that will only disappoint? It may be sex, money, or power. It may be our reputation, or even our families. Ask the Lord to help us see where our hopes are, and to lay them down so we can cling only to Jesus.

Let us read together:

I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Let Justice Roll written by Bobby Gilles and Rebecca Elliott.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

This is the story of Jesus, our vision and our hope:

“Christ made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a servant and appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross.

Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”                                                                                                        – Philippians 2:7-11 NLT

BENEDICTION

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. — 1 Cor. 10:31 NLT

Now go in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Peace be with you!
