Warner Bros. The Good Lie is coming out on BluRay and DVD tomorrow, Dec. 23, but Kristen and I have one free copy to give away, and you could be the winner. When we watched this film, we were moved deeply by this true-life story of the Lost Boys of Sudan, children caught in the grip of a horrible civil war.
The Good Lie tells the story of their nearly 1000-mile walk to a refugee camp, then their opportunity through the efforts of church groups and other charities to enter the U.S. We then see what it takes to start over in a completely new society, with a radically different way of life, and with governmental red tape that often hurts those we’re trying to help.
The Good Lie stars Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon and some actual former Lost Boys, such as Emmanuel Jal and Ger Duany, both of whom had been recruited to be child soldiers before escaping.
One more thing: you may be thinking, “Is this one of those typical, cheesy Christian films?”
It’s anything but cheesy. 86% of critics approved by Rotten Tomatoes gave it a positive review, as did 82% of the audience, who gave it an average 4 out of 5 stars. And audiences polled by Cinemascore, the industry standard for gauging filmgoer opinions, rated The Good Lie an “A+” – just the 53rd movie in the last 30 years to receive that honor.
