in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the full service from our Facebook page (see a video of our sermon alone below).

Worship Director Justin Shaffer directs our liturgy, collaborating with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany and our Liturgy writing team (Rebekah Carroll, Ryan Marsh, Libby Thorngate, and Lindsey Blair). This Sunday, Pastor Jonah Sage preached on Hebrews 2:1-4.

—Prelude: “Lead Us, Holy Spirit” Key, Leader

CALL TO WORSHIP:   Liturgist

Good morning! Welcome to Sojourn! Let’s read his word together:

1 Shout for joy to God, all the earth!

2     Sing the glory of his name;

    make his praise glorious.

3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!

    So great is your power

    that your enemies cringe before you.

4 All the earth bows down to you;

    they sing praise to you,

    they sing the praises of your name.”

5 Come and see what God has done,

    his awesome deeds for mankind!

8 Praise our God, all peoples,

    let the sound of his praise be heard;

9 he has preserved our lives

    and kept our feet from slipping.

-Psalm 66:1-5, 8-9

So let’s sing!

—Song 2: “Lord You’re Mighty” Key, Leader

CONFESSION/LAMENT:  Band Member

We serve a mighty triune God. A incomprehensibly loving Father, a tender and compassionate elder brother in the person of Jesus, and a helper and guide in the person of the Holy Spirit. Yet we often try to go it alone in our sin and suffering, seeking to fill a void or find comfort that only God can provide. Let’s take a moment to silently name our sin and suffering and lay it at the feet of Jesus.

—Song 3: “Hold Me Jesus” Key, Leader

ASSURANCE: Liturgist

Hear this incredible assurance that rings out even in the face of imprisonment:

8 Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach. 9 And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained. 10 So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.

-2 Timothy 2:8-10 NLT

—Song 4: “We Are Listening” Key, Leader

PEACE: Band Member

Hear the word of the Lord:

7 And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”

 -Jeremiah 29:7 NLT

——————————————   [SERMON & COMMUNION]   ——————————————-

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Reader

—Song 6: “Psalm 34 (Taste and See)” Key, Leader

BENEDICTION: Liturgist

“Praise the Lord!

I will thank the Lord with all my heart

    as I meet with his godly people.

2 How amazing are the deeds of the Lord!

    All who delight in him should ponder them.

3 Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty.

    His righteousness never fails.

[…so go, remembering his wonderful works – his grace and his mercy, and praise him daily as you go about your lives in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Peace be with you
