in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page here  (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, below).

Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, and our Liturgy writing team (Rebekah Carroll, Ryan Marsh, and Lindsey Blair).

This Sunday Pastor Sam Huff preached from Genesis 11:1-9 in our series entitled Desecrated.

—Prelude: “Warrior” Key, Leader

CALL TO WORSHIP:   Liturgist

Themes: Sin has separated us from God and one another, but through God’s grace, we are given the power of God to experience true unity and fill the earth with God’s truth, beauty, and goodness

Christ himself bore God’s wrath to atone for the violence and bloodshed of a sinful people.

Attributes of God:

1 The Lord reigns,

let the nations tremble;

he sits enthroned between the cherubim,

let the earth shake.

2 Great is the Lord in Zion;

he is exalted over all the nations.

3 Let them praise your great and awesome name—

he is holy.

-Psalm 99 NIV

—Song 2: “Our Great God (Spanish vs or refrain)” Key, Leader

LAMENT FOR UKRAINE:  Band Member, extemporaneous

—Song 3: “May Your Power Rest on Me” Key, Leader

18 Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

19 So he went and preached to the spirits in prison— 20 those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood. 21 And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

22 Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.

-1 Peter 3:18-22 NLT

—Song 4: “Power in the Blood” Key, Leader

PEACE: Band Member

Let’s greet one another in the grace and peace of Christ 🙂

—Song 6: “He Reigns” Key, Leader

10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11 All power to him forever! Amen. [Go in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Peace be with you!                                                                                                               -1 Peter 5:10-11 NLT
