in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page here  (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, below).

Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, and our Liturgy writing team (Rebekah Carroll, Ryan Marsh, and Lindsey Blair).

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Acts 17 in our series entitled Our Sojourn.

CALL TO WORSHIP:   Liturgist

Good morning and welcome! Let’s proclaim God’s glory and goodness together this morning. Raise your hands in worship with me as we hear the word of the Lord:

Let all that I am praise the Lord;

with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

Let all that I am praise the Lord;

may I never forget the good things he does for me.

He forgives all my sins

and heals all my diseases.

He redeems me from death

and crowns me with love and tender mercies.

He fills my life with good things.

My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Praise the Lord, you angels,

you mighty ones who carry out his plans,

listening for each of his commands.

Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels

who serve him and do his will!

Praise the Lord, everything he has created,

everything in all his kingdom.

Let all that I am praise the Lord.

-Psalm 103:1-5, 20-22 NLT

Let’s join our voices together and sing!

—Song 2: “Love As You Love” Key, Ryan

CONFESSION:  Band Member

Hear about our savior, the way He relates to us, and the way He has made for us to come to God:

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

-Hebrews 4:14-16

Let’s come boldly now before God in our weakness, knowing without a doubt that He is merciful and gracious, ready to help, heal, forgive, restore us.

—Song 3: “Graves Into Gardens” Key, Ryan

ASSURANCE & GIVING: Liturgist

The prophet Isaiah spoke of great news for God’s people. Hear what the Lord’s gonna do!

In Jerusalem, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies

will spread a wonderful feast

for all the people of the world.

It will be a delicious banquet

with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat.

There he will remove the cloud of gloom,

the shadow of death that hangs over the earth.

He will swallow up death forever!

The Sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears.

He will remove forever all insults and mockery

    against his land and people.

    The Lord has spoken!

-Isaiah 25:6-8 NLT

When God says He’ll do something, He’ll do it. This is such good news for us, knowing that He’ll not only bring an end to death and suffering, but he will provide a feast for us to celebrate together. He’s made this possible through Jesus, His Son. Let’s sing!

—Song 4: “In Christ Alone” Key, Mary Margaret

PEACE: Band Member

Take a couple moments to welcome each other in the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus, and tell somebody about the good things the Lord has done for you recently  🙂

BENEDICTION: Liturgist

We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. [Peace be with you!]

-1 Corinthians 13:12-13
