by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page or here below (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, from Vimeo).

Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, our Liturgy writers, and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Genesis 1:1-2 in our series Sacred. Kristen McGee was our Lector.

—Prelude: “Psalm 42 (Tori Kelly)” Key, Meg

CALL TO WORSHIP:   Liturgist

Good morning! Welcome to Sojourn! Let’s declare the glory of God together! Hear his word:

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

2 Day after day they pour forth speech;

night after night they reveal knowledge.

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart

    be pleasing in your sight,

Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

-Psalm 19:1-2, 14 NIV

Let’s sing!

—Song 2: “Our Great God” Key, Rick

CONFESSION:  Band Member

[Modulate to new key for O Come to the Altar and read over music]

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,

refreshing the soul.

7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect,

reviving the soul.

The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,

making wise the simple.

8 The commandments of the Lord are right,

bringing joy to the heart.

The commands of the Lord are clear,

giving insight for living.

9 Reverence for the Lord is pure,

lasting forever.

The laws of the Lord are true;

each one is fair.

10 They are more desirable than gold,

even the finest gold.

They are sweeter than honey,

even honey dripping from the comb.

11 They are a warning to your servant,

a great reward for those who obey them.

12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?

Cleanse me from these hidden faults.

13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins!

Don’t let them control me.

Then I will be free of guilt

and innocent of great sin.

14 May the words of my mouth

and the meditation of my heart

be pleasing to you,

O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

-Psalm 19:7-13 NLT

—Song 3: “O Come to the Altar” Key, Kara

ASSURANCE & GIVING: Liturgist

Hear the good news:

28 Have you never heard?

Have you never understood?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

the Creator of all the earth.

He never grows weak or weary.

No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

29 He gives power to the weak

and strength to the powerless.

30 Even youths will become weak and tired,

and young men will fall in exhaustion.

31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.

They will soar high on wings like eagles.

They will run and not grow weary.

They will walk and not faint.

-Isaiah 40:28-31 NLT

In 1-2 Sentences: “”

—Song 4: “Lord Let Your Glory Fall” Key, Justin

PEACE: Band Member

Hear the word of the Lord:

God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.                                                                                        -2 Cor 5:18b-19 NLT

We embody this message every week when we pass the peace…
