in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page or here below (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, from Vimeo).

Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, our Liturgy writers, and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Genesis 3:11 in our series Questions From God. Sarah Ash was our Lector.

CALL TO WORSHIP:   Liturgist

Good morning! Welcome to Sojourn! Peace be with you! I’m _________ one of the ________ here. We hope you feel at home, seen, safe, and well taken care of today. We gather every Sunday to be with Jesus together, to worship God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, together.

33-36 Have you ever come on anything quite like this extravagant generosity of God, this deep, deep wisdom? It’s way over our heads. We’ll never figure it out.

Is there anyone around who can explain God?

Anyone smart enough to tell him what to do?

Anyone who has done him such a huge favor

that God has to ask his advice?

Everything comes from him;

Everything happens through him;

Everything ends up in him.

Always glory! Always praise!

-Romans 11:33-36 The Message

God is far beyond our very best attempts to understand him, yet he sees you… you are safe with him… he takes care of you. Let’s sing!

—Song 2: “All of Creation” Key, Leader

CONFESSION/LAMENT:  Band Member

Hear the word of the Lord:

God, who gets invited

to dinner at your place?

How do we get on your guest list?

2 “Walk straight,

act right,

tell the truth.

3-4 “Don’t hurt your friend,

don’t blame your neighbor;

despise the despicable.

5 “Keep your word even when it costs you,

make an honest living,

never take a bribe.

“You’ll never get

blacklisted

if you live like this.”

-Psalm 15 The Message

[extemporize transition in 1-2 sentences]

—Song 3: “Wake Up, Jesus” Key, Leader

ASSURANCE & GIVING: Liturgist

Hear how your father loves you and takes care of you:

17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.      -James 1:17-18 NLT

Christian, receive the gift of God’s presence and provision! Let’s sing with hearts of gratitude!

—Song 4: “The Anthem” Key, Leader

PEACE: Band Member

Let’s greet one another in God’s grace and peace today! Peace be with you 🙂

BENEDICTION: Liturgist

[Nothing] fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. [Go in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you!]                                          -Romans 8:38-39 The Message
