Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page or here below (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, from Vimeo).
Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, our Liturgy writers, and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area. This week’s liturgy was written by Deacon Lindsey Blair.
This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached Ecclesiastes 3:22-26 to begin our series Wise. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP: Liturgist
Good morning, family and Happy Father’s Day! We’re glad you are here. We hope that this service will be a blessing and encouragement to you today, whether you are here and feeling joyful and grateful, or carrying some grief and pain. You are not alone, and we can gather together and hold both joy and grief with and for one another. Let’s hear these words about Our Father in heaven, who is so good and kind to us, and who continues to faithfully carry and strengthen us.
“Blessed are you, God of Israel, our Father
from of old and forever.
To you, O God, belong the greatness and the might,
the glory, the victory, the majesty, the splendor;
Yes! Everything in heaven, everything on earth;
the kingdom all yours! You’ve raised yourself high over all.
Riches and glory come from you,
you’re ruler over all;
You hold strength and power in the palm of your hand
to build up and strengthen all.
And here we are, O God, our God, giving thanks to you,
praising your splendid Name.” 1 Chronicles 29: 11-12 NIV
Let’s continue to lift our hearts and voices together and sing praises to God, our Holy and Perfect Father!
—Song 2: “Praise to the Lord Almighty” Key, Leader
CONFESSION: Band Member
Many of us have grown comfortable and complacent where we are. We struggle to see things as they are and are blinded to things that keep us from experiencing fullness and freedom in Christ. Hear these words, and let’s ask God to help us.
“This, in essence, is the message we heard from Christ
And are passing onto you: God is light, pure light:
There’s not a trace of darkness in Him.
If we claim that we experience a shared life with Him
And continue to stumble around in the dark,
We’re obviously lying through our teeth—
We’re NOT living what we claim. “
Lord, help us to walk in the light.
“But if we walk in the light, God Himself being the light,
We also experience a shared life with one another,
As the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s son, purges all of our sin.
If we claim that we are free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves.
A claim that is like errant nonsense.”
Lord, help us to be honest with ourselves and see the ways we have fallen short.
“On the other hand,
If we admit our sins–simply come clean about them–
He won’t let us down; He’ll be true to Himself.
He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrong-doing.
If we claim that we’ve never sinned,
we out-and-out contradict God—make a liar out of Him.
A claim that only shows off our ignorance of God.”
Lord, help us to live in truth and to trust in you.

ASSURANCE & GIVING: Liturgist
We can be honest with ourselves and with God. He sees us, knows our innermost parts, and loves us beyond measure. We can trust Him and know He is holding all things together, including us. Hear these words, and be assured that we are safe and secure in the Lord.
“As for God, his way is perfect
The Lord’s Word is flawless;
He shields all who take refuge in Him.
For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength
And keeps my way secure.
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
He causes me to stand on the heights.
He trains my hands for battle;
My arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You make your saving help my shield;
And your right hand sustains me;
Your help has made me great.” Psalm 18: 30-35 NIV
—Song 4: “Our God” Key, Leader
PASSING OF THE PEACE: Band Member
In Christ, we experience a shared life together as dearly beloved sons and daughters of God. Let’s take a moment to greet one another with the peace and love of Christ.

Please extend both hands…
Eternal and Wise God, we open our hands and our hearts to you, and lay down our frantic desire to be in control. Help us to trust you and receive both the brokenness and the beauty in our lives knowing that you see the beginning and the end, and are working all things together for our good and your ultimate and everlasting glory. Go now, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God’s peace be with you!
