by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page or here below (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, from Vimeo).

Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, our Liturgy writers, and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Matthew 22:1-14 in our series Family Values. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP:   Liturgist

Good morning! Welcome to sojourn! (Acknowledge online congregation at the 9:00) …the gathering is a foretaste of the party that is to come…

[God] set my feet on solid ground

and steadied me as I walked along.

He has given me a new song to sing,

a hymn of praise to our God.

Many will see what he has done and be amazed.

They will put their trust in the Lord.

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,

who have no confidence in the proud

or in those who worship idols.

O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us.

Your plans for us are too numerous to list.

You have no equal.

If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,

I would never come to the end of them.

-Psalm 40:2b-5 NLT

…so let’s continue in that song and sing with all we’ve got!

—Song 1: “All Creatures of Our God and King” Key, Leader

CONFESSION/LAMENT:  Band Member

…hear what the Lord has done for you when you’re feeling low:

A David Psalm

23 1-3 God, my shepherd!

I don’t need a thing.

You have bedded me down in lush meadows,

you find me quiet pools to drink from.

True to your word,

you let me catch my breath

and send me in the right direction.

4 Even when the way goes through

Death Valley,

I’m not afraid

when you walk at my side.

Your trusty shepherd’s crook

makes me feel secure.

5 You serve me a six-course dinner

right in front of my enemies.

You revive my drooping head;

my cup brims with blessing.

6 Your beauty and love chase after me

every day of my life.

I’m back home in the house of God

for the rest of my life.

-Psalm 23 The Message

What is it like to know that God’s beauty and love chase after you EVERY day of your life? How might that transform your thoughts and deeds?

—Song 2: “Eyes on the Prize” Key, Leader

ASSURANCE & GIVING: Liturgist

Themes: God’s invitation to the thirsty, the big invite,

Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! 38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” 39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him.

-John 7:37b-39a NLT

—Song 3: “Oh Lord, My Redeemer” Key, Leader

PASSING OF THE PEACE: Band Member

Let’s greet one another today with the security and confidence of those who know; “This is my family, I was invited to the party, I belong here.”

——————————————   [SERMON & COMMUNION]   ——————————————

—Song 4: “Magnificent Sanctuary Band” Key, Leader

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Reader

BENEDICTION: Liturgist

Go on your way rejoicing, getting ready for the party that is coming!;

Surrounded as you are by such a great cloud of witnesses,

take courage as you face each new challenge,

and comfort when you pick yourself from a fall,

In whatever good you choose to do,

precede it with hope,

accompany it with prayer,

and follow it with thanksgiving.

The blessing of our Great God,

whom the saints have trusted as

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

will be with you

now and ever more. Peace be with you!
