in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page or here below (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, from Vimeo).

Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, our Liturgy writers, and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Matthew 19:16-30 in our series Family Values, from Matthew 19-22. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP: Justin
Good morning! Welcome to sojourn! I’m Justin…

…(ask them to stand for the reading of God’s word if they’re not already)

The heavens are Yours; the earth also is Yours;
The world and all that is in it, You have founded them.
The north and the south, You have created them;
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
Steadfast love and faithfulness go before you. Psalm 89: 11-12, 14 NIV

Summary in 1-2 SENTENCES: Our God is the creator and owner of everything in the Heavens and the Earth, including us, and He reigns with Love and Mercy, delivering justice for the oppressed and fulfilling His good promises. Let’s lift our voices this morning to our Sovereign God, who deserves all the Glory, honor, and praise!

—Song 1: “Solid Rock” Key, Leader

LAMENT: Ryan
**TBD**

—Song 2: “Let Justice Roll” Key, Leader

ASSURANCE & GIVING: Justin
Hear this good word of assurance from God’s word:

God is slow to anger and full of compassion.
He forgives all who humbly repent and trust in his Son as Saviour and Lord.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Amen! Thank you Lord!!
-Exodus 34:6-7; Romans 8:1

One of the ways we can show our neighbors how God has changed us is by loosening the tight grip we have on our money and trusting him with our lives, plans, and money, just as Jesus instructed the first Christians to do. We normally pass giving baskets around during this time, (now, you may give as you exit the building at the end of our service, or online). When we would rather have Jesus than anything, we get to partner with him in building his kingdom. Every good gift is from him and ultimately, he is all we need! Let’s continue to sing!

—Song 3: “God Alone” Key, Leader

PASSING OF THE PEACE: Ryan
God’s answer to our hard and cold posture toward him was not to treat us as the enemies that we were, but instead, to die for our sins so that we may have peace with Him. And the peace of Christ reaches beyond our relationship with God, extending to each other as well. Let’s spend a moment now greeting one another in the Peace of God.

—Song 4: “Nothing WIthout You” Key, Leader

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Justin

BENEDICTION: Michael
May Christ’s generosity towards sinner’s like you and I truly set us free to share the hope of the Gospel with a lost and dying world. Go in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you!
