Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page or here below (you can also see a video of our sermon alone, from Vimeo).
Our liturgy is directed by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Staff at Sojourn Church New Albany, our Liturgy writers, and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area. This week’s liturgy was composed by Rebekah Carroll.
This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Philippians 4:1-9 in our series Prison Poems: Citizens Of Joy In Circumstances Of Suffering. We begin with a short “countdown to the gathering” hosted by Deacon Lindsey Blair and Pastor Bobby Gilles. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP: Justin
Themes:
…so let’s tell the Lord what we’re gonna do and shout it, masks and all!
7 [Proclaim] aloud your praise
and [tell] of all your wonderful deeds.
8 Lord, I love the house where you live,
the place where your glory dwells.
12 My feet stand on level ground;
in the great congregation I will praise the Lord.
-Psalm 26:7-8, 12 NIV
Let’s sing! In
—Song 2: “Psalm 34 (Taste and See)” Key, Leader
CONFESSION/LAMENT: Band Member
We want to be a people who are real about what grieves us, about our weariness, about our sin and need for God. So let us practice that now. Kids; are you sad or frustrated about something? Did you do something wrong or selfish this week? Tell God about it. You’re safe with him and he loves you. Grownups; are you sad or frustrated about something? Did you do something wrong or selfish this week? Tell God about it. You’re safe with him and he loves you.
(SILENT PRAYER AS THE BAND SOFTLY PLAYS)
Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over. But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under his loving correction. It’s the child he loves that God corrects; a father’s delight is behind all this.
-Proverbs 3:5-12 The Message
—Song 3: “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” Key, Leader
ASSURANCE & GIVING: Liturgist
Hear the words of our Lord Jesus:
7-13 “The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:
Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what’s best—
as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
-Matthew 6:7-13 The Message
