in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page, or here below (you’ll also see a higher resolution video of the sermon alone).

Our liturgy is written by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Team at Sojourn Church New Albany and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Matthew 13:1-23 in our series Stories Of Jesus: New Life In A New Family. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP:   Liturgist

Good morning! Welcome to Sojourn! Let’s gather around and hear the greatest story – the story of our true, beautiful, and good king and the redemption song he sings over us –

6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,

their starry host by the breath of his mouth.

7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars;

he puts the deep into storehouses.

8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;

let all the people of the world revere him.

9 For he spoke, and it came to be;

he commanded, and it stood firm. -Psalm 33:6-9 NIV

Creation responds by bursting into song, let’s do likewise!

—Song 2: “I Stand Amazed in the Presence” Key, Ryan

LAMENT:  Band Member

…riff off Jesus’ lament in Matthew 13

OR “Open eyes, ears” -Psalm 119:17-18

{brief silence}

Let’s speak this good news together:

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises

    and faithful in all he does.

14 The Lord upholds all who fall

    and lifts up all who are bowed down.

-Psalm 145:13b-14 NIV

Let’s sing the story we share and point one another to Christ…

—Song 3: “Come and See” Key, Janna

ASSURANCE/GIVING: (To be read like a story – Jess?)

Hear the word of the Lord:

4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. -Eph. 2:4-10 NLT

…let’s continue to worship as the giving baskets are passed around 🙂

—Song 4: “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” Key, Leader
