by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page, or here below (you’ll also see a higher resolution video of the sermon alone).

Our liturgy is written by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Team at Sojourn Church New Albany and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday was our annual Children’s Choir & Cocoa Sunday. And Pastor Jonah Sage preached the third sermon in our Advent series, The Songs Of Jesus. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

(Justin) Good morning and welcome to Sojourn! Today is the 3rd Sunday of Advent … we light the Shepherd’s candle and remember the Joy we have in Christ! …and it’s a very special day for us – Today we get to celebrate our Savior Jesus with our Sojourn Kids Choir!

One of our greatest joys is hearing our children sing songs about Jesus. Let’s make sure to encourage them and be ready to smile with joy and clap for these incredible kids. Let’s welcome our kids choir with a round of applause this morning!

(Jeremy) …there’s a time for solemn reverence, but not today! We encourage you to enjoy worshipping with your kids however you see fit… if you want to come to the front or in the isles to see them better or take photos or video, please do so! If you want to sit, stand, or climb on somebody’s shoulders, just ask them first 😉 Let’s all worship Christ our King together!

READING

Hear the word of the Lord:

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!                                                                                    -1 John 3:1 NIV

God enjoys us, his children, and the way for us to respond to him is by enjoying spending time with him. Let’s sing a song to our King!

ASSURANCE & GIVING (Jonah)

Let’s pray together!

Father God, thank you for sending Jesus to earth. You created everything. You are King over everything, but you loved us enough to become a little baby. Jesus, we praise you for going to the cross to die and take the punishment for our sins. Thank you for giving yourself to us as the greatest Christmas gift! In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

In love He became like us and died for us, so that He might save us and restore our relationship with the Father.

It is so wonderful to worship God together! We worship by singing, we worship, we worship by giving… in fact the bible teaches that we worship in everything we do!  We can give because God has already given so much to us. Everything we have is a good gift from God. Let’s worship God with our offering as the giving baskets are passed around the aisles and we continue to sing.

PEACE

(Another round of applause for our kids choir and the light that shines through them! And pastor Stephen wanted us to make sure you know NOT to get your kids right now… if you want them to join you in the service, please check them out at their classroom. Thanks!

🙂 Let’s enjoy each others company for a few moments as we greet each other 🙂

A Day of Glory -Ahren

BENEDICTION (Introduce receiving posture,

“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

-Revelation 21:3b-5a (ESV)

King Jesus came to make all things new, for you and for me and for all. Go sharing his good news this Advent season in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you!
