in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page, or here below (you’ll also see a higher resolution video of the sermon alone).

Our liturgy is written by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Team at Sojourn Church New Albany and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday, Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Matthew 12:1-14 in our series Respond: Following the Lord of Life. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Good morning! …

8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord.

With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;

    my body also will rest secure,                                                                         -Psalm 16:8-9 NIV

ASSURANCE & GIVING

Hear the message of the gospel, and see a window into the life of the early church:

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.                      -Acts 2:38-39, 42-47 NIV

Let us do likewise as the giving baskets are passed around and we continue to sing 🙂

PEACE

If you recall back to the passage we just read in Acts 2… it sure seems like with God’s help, they were enjoying a profound, a deep, even a practical kind of peace. In some ways I wish had like the full on potluck more than a few times a year because it’s just really hard to remain at odds with one another when you’re regularly enjoying meals together… for now, these few moments will have to suffice, but I hope you truly enjoy hanging out and extending the love and peace of Christ to one another 🙂
