in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page, or here below (you’ll also see a higher resolution video of the sermon alone).

Our liturgy is written by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Team at Sojourn Church New Albany and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday, Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Matthew 9:1-17 in our series Receive: Finding Freedom Through Healing. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Good morning! Welcome!

98 Sing to God a brand-new song.

He’s made a world of wonders!

He rolled up his sleeves,

He set things right.

2 God made history with salvation,

He showed the world what he could do.

3 He remembered to love us, a bonus

To his dear family, Israel—indefatigable love.

(I had to look up that word, “indefatigable,” it means “a person or their efforts persisting tirelessly” and now I know why it was translated with such a fancy word… it’s really the only word in the English language that communicates “persisting tirelessly. Let’s continue… how should we respond to this kind of love?

The whole earth comes to attention.

Look—God’s work of salvation!

4 Shout your praises to God, everybody!

Let loose and sing! Strike up the band!

Come Ye Sinners

CONFESSION

Spoken

4 Surely he took up our pain

and bore our suffering,

yet we considered him punished by God,

stricken by him, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,

he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was on him,

and by his wounds we are healed.

6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,

each of us has turned to our own way;

and the Lord has laid on him

the iniquity of us all.                                                                                          -Isaiah 53:4-6 NIV

Spoken

I Boast No More

ASSURANCE & GIVING

…hear this

…let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.9 For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. 10 Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. 11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.                                 -1 Thessalonians 5:8-11 NLT

PASSING OF THE PEACE

God has the power to redeem unhealthy relationships… this is a really big deal… something to celebrate. Let’s greet each other in God’s peace today, celebrating what God has done to unite us.
