Christian Liturgy 101 – How One Church Worshiped, July 21, 2019

by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page, or here below (you’ll also see a higher resolution video of the sermon alone).

Our liturgy is written by Worship Director Justin Shaffer, in collaboration with our Creative Team at Sojourn Church New Albany and worship staff at the other four Sojourn Collective churches in the Louisville area.

This Sunday, following the scripture reading by Worship Leader Janna McCarty, Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Daniel 3 in our series from the book of Daniel, Stand: Staying Strong In A World Of Chaos. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

Fourth Man in the Fire

CALL TO WORSHIP

1 Sing a new song to the Lord!

Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!

2 Sing to the Lord; praise his name.

Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.

3 Publish his glorious deeds among the nations.

Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.

4 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!

He is to be feared above all gods.

5 The gods of other nations are mere idols,

but the Lord made the heavens!

6 Honor and majesty surround him;

strength and beauty fill his sanctuary.                                                            -Psalm 96:1-6 NLT

Let’s worship together!

How Can the Heavens Hold You

CONFESSION

…that we have loved other things…

…preoccupied with our own agendas rather than seeking to hear and obey God’s agenda…

…that we scramble when things don’t go our way instead of standing in faith and trust…

Give us Clean Hands

ASSURANCE & GIVING

Spoken

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.                                             -1 John 4:7-10 NIV

Spoken

I Stand Amazed in the Presence

PEACE

Hear how John continues:

11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

-1 John 4:11-12 NIV

Spoken

[Sermon]

[Communion]

ANNOUNCEMENTS

None But Thee

BENEDICTION

I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. [Go in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit… Peace Be With You                                                                        -Rom. 8:38-39
