in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page, or here below (you’ll also see a video of the sermon alone).

Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Matthew 7:24-29, the final sermon in our series on the Sermon On The Mount – The Good Life: Living the More You Were Made For. To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Good morning! Welcome to sojourn! Whenever we gather together, we want all of what we do to be a response to God… what he has said, what he has done… and who he IS. The same voice that thunders over all creation, speaks a gracious invitation to you and me. Let’s read the Word of the Lord together.

The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea.

The God of glory thunders.

The Lord thunders over the mighty sea.

The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.

-Psalm 29:3-4 NLT

Let’s stand and sing together.

Our God by Christ Tomlin, Matt Redman, Jesse Reeves, Jonah Myrin.

CONFESSION

Many things would seek to divide our heart… and often we willfully plod down the wide and futile path seeking fulfillment instead of following Jesus down the narrow path that leads to life. Our guilt, our fear, our shame pulls us sideways, spins us out, and into the many pitfalls along the way. Yet God patiently and persistently calls us back again, finds us when we wander, and patiently listens as we bring our war stories to Him. So let us rejoice in him as his word teaches:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice…The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

-Philippians 4:5a, 6 NIV

Be Still My Soul by Katharina von Schlegel.

ASSURANCE & GIVING

…whole heart…

1 The Lord is my shepherd;

I have all that I need.

2 He lets me rest in green meadows;

he leads me beside peaceful streams.

3     He renews my strength.

He guides me along right paths,

bringing honor to his name.

4 Even when I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will not be afraid,

for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff

protect and comfort me.

5 You prepare a feast for me

in the presence of my enemies.

You honor me by anointing my head with oil.

My cup overflows with blessings.

6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me

all the days of my life,

and I will live in the house of the Lord

Forever. -Psalm 23 NLT

What a glorious hope and promise!

PASSING OF THE PEACE

…and it’s by grace that we have peace and reconciliation with one another, so let’s live into that peace now as we greet one another 🙂

BENEDICTION

With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort. [Go in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you!]
