Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap for this second Sunday of Advent. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page. Below that, you’ll see the video of the sermon alone.

Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

CALL TO WORSHIP

…spend time with Jesus to become like Jesus? (ask Jonah)

15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.                                                                                                                               -Luke 24:15 ESV

Spoken

Be Thou My Vision traditional.

CONFESSION/LAMENT

Spoken

3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.                                                                                          -1 John 2:3-6 ESV

Spoken

Satisfied in You written by Brian Eichelberger.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

… the weight of keeping God’s law and commands is impossibly heavy, but hear God’s promise:

10 fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.                                                -Isaiah 41:10 ESV

This promise has complete and effective fulfillment in Jesus’ triumph… he himself is God’s righteous right hand, strengthening you, helping you, and upholding you in the face of trials and temptation! Hallelujah!

PASSING OF THE PEACE

The dissonance of selfishness and pride that once hung unresolved in our relationships with God and each other is being resolved by our patient, tender, and loving heavenly father through Christ Jesus our Lord! Church, let’s enjoy what God has done for us and proclaim it to each other as we take a few moments to greet one another 🙂
