in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap for this second Sunday of Advent. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. You can also watch the video stream of the whole service from our Facebook page. Below that, you’ll see the video of the sermon alone.

Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached Galatians 6:1-5 as part of our Galatians sermon series.  To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Love candle…

A Day of Glory written by Chris Collins, Justin Cofield, Aaron Ivey and Matt Carter.

LAMENT

Spoken

31 For no one is abandoned
by the Lord forever.
32 Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion
because of the greatness of his unfailing love.
33 For he does not enjoy hurting people
or causing them sorrow.                                                                 -Lamentations 3:31-33 NLT

O Come O Come Emmanuel written by John Neale and Thomas Helmore.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

Praise be to God for sending His beloved Son to set His people free and release us from sin. He is our hope and salvation. Let us thank Him as Scriptures say:

May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.                                                              -Colossians 1:11b-14 NLT

When we give to God’s church, we’re saying, “We can rest in your salvation and enjoy the freedom you have purchased, we can trust that you’ll supply all we lack.”

Let’s pray this together:

Father, when we give to you, you provide for us.
And when we rest in you, you work in us.

If you’re a visitor this morning, don’t feel obligated to give. This service is our gift to you, from coffee to childcare, because the people around you are some of the most generous people you’ll ever meet 🙂

And now, the giving baskets will go around as we continue to sing.

Amen, Amen written by Kate and Neil Degraide.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Spoken

20 [Through Christ] God reconciled
everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.                                       -Colossians 1:20 NLT

Spoken

BENEDICTION

May the love of Christ displayed in his birth and the hope of his return calm your fears, heal your shame, and fill you with abiding love and praise. Go now in the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. Peace be with you
