in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Below that video, you can see a higher res video of the sermon alone.

Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached Galatians 1:1-1-24 as part of our Galatians sermon series.  To learn more about Sojourn Church, click here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Welcome…

(Dramatic reading of Psalm 139:1-18 over bowed instrumental music… obviously this is much longer than normal, so come prepared to own it)

1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
-Psalm 139:1-18a NIV

God of Wonders – Meg

CONFESSION

Our own story…

…silent reflection… time to do business with God

23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.                                                          -Psalm 139:23-24 NIV

God’s not done with us…

Be Still My Soul – Meg

ASSURANCE/GIVING

God has been at work in you since before you were born …

Hear the good news!
Christ died for us,
Christ rose for us,
Christ reigns in power for us,
Christ prays for us.
Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.
The old life has gone; a new life has begun.

Based on Rom. 8:34; 2 Cor. 5:17

Believe the good news of the gospel:
In Jesus Christ you are forgiven.

Thanks be to God!!

God has indeed taken care of everything we truly need in Christ… let us now give as a people who can respond to that in security and trust, let us pray for God’s wisdom to leverage these shared resources for his kingdom’s sake, and offer thanksgiving with cheerful hearts and the giving baskets are passed around and we continue to sing

When the Savior Reached Down For Me/Amazing Grace -Justin

PEACE

Romans 5 says: (memorize)

…since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

-Romans 5:1-2b NIV

We stand in his grace, our dignity is restored, and our relationship with God and one another is marked by health where there used to be strife. This is a really big deal! Let’s enjoy a few moments of fellowship fully awakened to this incredible reality 🙂

BENEDICTION

We share the same precious faith…
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. Peace be with you!                                                         (from 2 Peter 1:1-2 NLT)
