Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from the story of Ruth, in our Mothers Of Jesus series. In this short Advent/Christmas series, we are learning about the character and plans of God that He reveals in Jesus’ ancestry (particularly, the five women listed in Jesus’ genealogy). Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

Prelude: Children Go

CALL TO WORSHIP

It is the 3rd Sunday of Advent. As Christmas day approaches, we celebrate that Christ has come into our dark world and His light shines IN and THROUGH His children. For centuries, the church has come to celebrate the JOY that the Messiah ushers in on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, so let’s hear God’s word and remember that God has done great things for us.

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,

we were like those who dreamed.

Our mouths were filled with laughter,

our tongues with songs of joy.

Then it was said among the nations,

“The Lord has done great things for them.”

The Lord has done great things for us,

and we are filled with joy.

-Psalm 126:1-3

I personally can’t think of many greater joys than hearing our children sing songs about Jesus. So today, as has become our tradition, we have our children’s choir joining us – remember – not every kid is a complete ham and it can be a little nerve wracking being in front of a few hundred grown-ups for the first time, so let’s smile with joy and clap our hands with our kiddos as we worship our King together. (If timing dictates – Let’s enjoy God’s presence and being together as a family as the band plays for a moment and the kids make their way to the stage.)

(Kids choir set up…)

KIDS CHOIR:

Song:  Hosanna in the Highest (?1st verse, chorus, key change, double chorus only) E-F#

GIVING (Bobby)

Transition Song: Come and Sing

PASSING OF THE PEACE:

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”                                                                                                    – Isaiah 9:6

Let’s greet one another in the peace of Christ!

SERMON/COMMUNION:

Communion Song: Knocking At Your Door

READING:

God has reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Song: O Glorious Hour

BENEDICTION:

May God, who sent his angels to proclaim the glad news of the Savior’s birth, fill you with joy and make you heralds of the gospel in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you!
