in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches. This Sunday deacon Stephen Pierce preached from Jonah 3. Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

Song All of Creation written by Jeremy Quillo.

CALL TO WORSHIP Good morning, and welcome to Sojourn! We gather each week to hear from our God who speaks to us. This is our great God who pursues us with a relentless love, even when we’re not pursuing Him. He draws near when we want to run away. He speaks, and if we ignore Him, He’s faithful to speak to us again.  So let’s hear from our God today.

The heavens praise your wonders, Lord,

   your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.

For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?

   Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?

In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared;

   he is more awesome than all who surround him.

Who is like you, Lord God Almighty?

   You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;

   love and faithfulness go before you.

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,

   who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.

Psalm 89:5-8, 14-15

Let’s sing to our God who is perfect in faithfulness.

Song 10,000 Reasons written by Matt Redman.

Although we have a Father who is faithful, we so often forget to listen to Him. We try to run away from Him, refusing to walk in obedience. Let’s pray together for God to help us remember Him, and His loving mercy…

(Extemporaneous prayer – Jeremy)

Song Merciful God written by Keith & Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend.

Hear this blessed assurance:

The Lord is compassionate and merciful,

   slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

He will not constantly accuse us,

   nor remain angry forever.

He does not punish us for all our sins;

   he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.

For his unfailing love toward those who fear him

   is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

He has removed our sins as far from us

   as the east is from the west.  Praise be to God.

-Psalm 103:8-12

Let’s continue to celebrate God’s mercy as we prepare to give, but before we do that, let’s take a moment to pray silently over this week’s offering.

Let’s pray these words together:

God, in the presence of each other

We bring you this offering, freely giving

Just as we have freely received all good things in Christ.

As the giving buckets are passed around, let’s sing to the Lord!

Song Nothing But the Blood (Matt Redman version)

We are friends of God today through the powerful work of Christ. Take this moment to greet those around you with the peace he has given us.

Song Come to Me written by Lizzie Akers, Jeff Capps, Michael Bleecker, Hunter Pecunia.

Song   Our Great God Fernando Ortega, Mac Powell.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. Go in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Peace be with you.  –Romans 11:33, 36
