in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches. This week Pastor Jonah preached “The Road to Emmaus” as we concluded our three week Resurrection series. Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Good morning and welcome! Whenever we gather

– we begin by turning our eyes toward our holy God

– then we recognize and acknowledge that we desperately need him

– we receive the assurance of his salvation and healing

– and then we go carrying the Good News of his salvation to a lost and hurting world!

Here his word and let your imagination be stirred –

The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;

   the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;

   indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.

Your throne was established long ago;

   you are from all eternity.

The seas have lifted up, Lord,

   the seas have lifted up their voice;

   the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.

Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,

   mightier than the breakers of the sea –

   the Lord on high is mighty.

Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;

   holiness adorns your house

   for endless days.

CONFESSION

Let’s pray together…

Lord, so often we act like the disciples, and are blind to what You are doing in this world.  We stay in our own cliques and walk in our own strength, forgetting that we exist because You hold our lives in Your hand.  Lord, fill us and make us into Your Son’s image.   Give us the Faith to trust and believe in the resurrection, that we may be a people filled with Your love. We pray this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus.  Amen.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

God promises us that He will never leave us or forsake us, so let’s read this together and be reminded of God’s love.

But I trust in your unfailing love.

I will rejoice because you have rescued me.

I will sing to the Lord

because he is good to me.

-Psalm 13:4-5

As the giving buckets go by and we continue to sing, remember that God has rescued us and He is given us everything we have.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

In a world lacking peace we can have peace in Christ.  As a matter of fact this is his promise.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Let’s celebrate this gift by greeting one another with a holy kiss or handshake, whichever your conscience permits. 😉

BENEDICTION

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Go in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.

1 Peter 1:13
