Over the last decade a growing number of independent worship artists have released music to the public, as have many churches (“indie/independent” means “not signed to a major record label). And while Kristen and I love many major label artists, as evidenced by their inclusion on our Spotify playlists, we thought it would be fun to create some playlists entirely made up of indies. So here is our Indie Worship Songs, Volume 1 from Spotify – click here or on the embedded player below (email/RSS subscribers may have to click through to our website to see the player):
Follow Kristen Gilles on Spotify to be the first to find future worship song playlists, and to browse current playlists, including:
- Upbeat Worship Songs, vol. 1 – 50+ driving, uptempo songs of praise and worship
- 40+ songs for grieving in hope, and worshiping in the midst of sorrow and suffering.
- Mission’s Songs — 30+ songs for sending, celebrating the God who sends us on mission.
- Trinity Songs – 30+ songs for trinitarian worship, celebrating the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- Modern Hymns — nearly 90 minutes of contemporary worship songs that are structured like hymns.
- Easter Worship Songs — 40+ songs celebrating the resurrection of Christ, and anticipating our own.
- Pentecost Worship Songs — 30+ songs of praise to the Holy Spirit, and celebrating the growth of God’s church.
- Lent Worship Songs — 40+ songs admitting our need for a savior, and praising the one who bore our sins.
And if you like some of the songs you hear, consider purchasing that artist’s music on iTunes or their website — it will help them create more music for you in the future. Recording, mixing, mastering and distributing music is expensive.

I’m crazy about Austin Stone. Great worship ministry; great church.
