Last fall Kristen and I spent a week at Refuge SSI, a retreat for worship leaders and church creatives in St. Simons Island, GA. One of the many side-benefits of that retreat was spending time with Shannon and Cyle Lewis of Saint Lewis. While visiting their home, Shannon shared a song with me that he’d been working on with Gary Durbin, then McKendree Augustus, and invited me to help finish it.”

I was honored to be a part of it. This song, “Your Will,” is the cry of our hearts to God: “Use me; I surrender to your perfect will for my life.”

This would be a good song for personal devotion as well as for churches who are looking for cross-centered, congregation-friendly songs of petition and dedication. In a standard Christian worship service liturgy, it would work as:

  • A response to the Call to Worship
  • A celebration of assurance
  • Communion
  • Dedication/Song for the Sending

Your Will
CCLI #6221146
Written by Shannon Lewis, McKendree Augustus, Gary Durbin & Bobby Gilles, 2011

First Verse:
I’m leaving my ambitions,
I’ve given up my dreams,
I surrender to the plans
You laid for me;
I’m waiting for a greater vision
Of who I’m meant to be

Pre-Chorus:
Nothing else matters
When You’re in control;
That’s all I need to know

Chorus:
Your will is … all I need
Your will is my destiny, Lord
Without You I am lost, Father
No matter what the cost
Your will is for me

Second Verse:
You left Your grand position
In heaven’s majesty,
Surrendered You’re own body
To the wrath reserved for me,
In Your cross I see a vision
Of who I’m meant to be

(Repeat Pre-Chorus & Chorus)

Bridge:
I’m laying down my will — I choose You
I’m leaving everything behind
