Sojourn Church Liturgy Recap – Patience – June 25, 2017

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches. This Sunday I had the honor of preaching on “patience” as a Fruit Of The Spirit, from John 20:24-29 (Doubting Thomas sees the risen Jesus). Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Welcome to Sojourn.  We begin our time together each week remembering the faithfulness of God, and how He continues to be faithful today.  Hear the word of the Lord.

Sing a new song to the Lord,

for he has done wonderful deeds.

His right hand has won a mighty victory;

his holy arm has shown his saving power!

The Lord has announced his victory

and has revealed his righteousness to every nation!

He has remembered his promise to love and be faithful to Israel.

The ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.

-Psalm 98:1-3

Let’s continue to worship our God and King.

Come and Sing written by Jeremy Quillo.

CONFESSION

Even Jesus’ closest friends and followers struggled to believe. Like they, we need God’s help to believe. Let us pray; let’s be honest about our sin and struggle and our need for rescue and help:

Our Lord and our God, you have shown your faithfulness to us in every season of life.

We confess that in unbelief we have hardened our hearts and ran from you.

You asked for deep trust from us we asked for signs and wonders for you to prove yourself.

We believe, help our unbelief so that we may live by faith.

We ask this in the name of Christ Jesus who lived, died and rose again in power. Amen.

O Help My Unbelief written by Isaac Watts and Justin Smith.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, guarantees salvation and rest for those that place their hope in Him. This is our assurance:

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.           -Hebrews 4:14-16 NLT

We WILL receive his mercy. We WILL find grace when we need it most. God keeps his promises church! Amen?! And like a loving father, he knows what we need and promises to take care of us – to provide for us.

As we prepare our tithes and offerings, let’s pray these words together:

God, in the presence of each other

We bring you this offering in faith, trusting

You to grow our faith and grow your kingdom.

Let’s sing in faith as the giving baskets are passed around!

There is a Fountain Filled With Blood written by William Cowper.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Jesus’ love is perfectly patience and longsuffering… we are reconciled with the Father through him, and because we are reconciled with God we can have peace with one another. Let’s make a priority now to greet each other this morning with that peace. 🙂

BENEDICTION

May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
