Sojourn Church Liturgy Recap – November 5, 2017 – Faith Alone

by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Romans 5 in the second sermon of our 5 Solas series, “Faith Alone.” This was also our fall Baby Dedication service. We dedicated 15 children to God. Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Good morning and welcome to Sojourn Community Church 🙂 All of creation has been a song of call and response. God spoke, and creation was made. God calls us and we draw near. God welcomes us because he wants to have a relationship with us. Please join me in this prayer.

O God, we pray to you because we know that you will answer. Bend down and listen as we pray. Show us your unfailing love in wonderful ways.

You save with your strength those who seek refuge from their enemies.

Guard us as the apple of your eye. Hide us in the shadow of your wings. (Adapted from Psalm 17:6-8)

In faithfulness, God waits for us to respond to his call. Let us respond in song.

Song: Solid Rock written by Edward Mote and William Bradbury.

CHILD DEDICATION

Song:  All I Have is Yours written by Bobby Gilles and Rebecca Elliott.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

In light of the reality that all we have belongs to God, we give with thankful hearts, we give in response to the gift of salvation we have received, we give because God delights in giving to us. Let’s pray together over our offering:

All good things come from you, O God,

and with gratitude we return to you what is yours.

You gave your only Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior.

In thanks, we offer you ourselves and all that we have,

for the sake of your kingdom. Amen.

-Adapted from the Worship Sourcebook

As the giving buckets go around, let’s give and sing with thankful hearts.

Song: Great is Thy Faithfulness written by Thomas Chisolm and William Runyon.

PEACE

King Jesus has loved us and turned us into a family. He offers us his peace. As a family, let’s put on love and let the peace of Christ in our hearts. Let’s greet one another with the peace of Christ.

[Sermon]

[Communion]

Song: My Faith Has Found a Resting Place written by Eliza Hewitt and Andre Gretry.

ASSURANCE

Brothers and sisters, take heart, have faith, hear this good news.

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

-Revelation 21:5-7

Our faith is born of God’s love for us. Let’s sing the song of our faith, the song that in Jesus, we can experience a living faith:
