In The Midst Of Death, Our Song In The Night

If you follow me on social media (or you’re a hometown friend), you know that my father passed away the night of December 30, 2015. He had congestive heart failure and diabetes, and since his retirement he had beaten cancer and survived two major open heart surgeries. Although he wasn’t bed-ridden, he was tired all the time, living with many medications and trips to doctor offices and hospitals. We’re sad that he isn’t with us, but comforted that we will see him again.

Dad was a Christian, and we know that he is now enjoying God’s presence as never before, where he is free from pain. We’re also comforted to know he is with his grandson, our son Parker who was stillborn three years ago.

We chose the name “My Song In The Night” for this website because life in this fallen world is often like a night of suffering. And yet Christ is our song and our joy, even in the midst of sorrow. The phrase “song in the night” occurs a few times in scripture.

Recently our friends Garden City adapted Psalm 77 into their own version of “My Song In The Night.” You can hear it, along with the other songs on their Psalms, Vol. 1 here (and you can read their lyrics/chords to “My Song In The Night” here).

Thank you for all your prayers. Kristen and I don’t update this blog as often anymore, but we haven’t forgotten you. We won’t abandon this blog, either! We’re staying busy as we minister on staff at Sojourn Community Church of New Albany, Indiana, where I serve as Director of Operations/Community Life and Kristen serves as Director of Children’s Ministry. But we’ll continue to check in here at MySongInTheNight.com from time to time, with content that will hopefully be helpful to you.
