in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached from Micah 6 about “goodness” as a core value.  Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

Song Lord Let Your Glory Fall

CALL TO WORSHIP

Good morning Sojourn it is good to be with our church family again!  And welcome to our family for all those who are visiting – we hope you feel at home 🙂 “But as for me and  my household, we will serve the Lord.”  And we serve Him because He is good and out of God’s goodness we are called to regular meeting together.  Let’s hear from God’s word about His goodness:

1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

2     Worship the Lord with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.

3 Know that the Lord is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his;

we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.

I will sing of your love and justice;

to you, Lord, I will sing praise.    -Psalm 100, 1-5 (NIV)

CONFESSION

Hear the Word of the Lord

Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?

Luke 9:23-25

Spoken: Too often, we take the call to follow Christ far too lightly. As Christ’s bride, let us take this time to be reminded of what it means to take up our cross and follow our Savior. Pray this with me:

ASSURANCE/GIVING

Friends and family, hear the word of the Lord.

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 9:34-36 NLT)

God is faithful and he is just… He forgives us of sin. He has made us part of his family and because of that we no longer are slaves to sin and death. Instead, we can have freedom… and life as followers of Christ. Let’s live into our new identity as daughters and sons of the King by abiding in Christ and rejoicing that our sins have been forgiven.

Song:   Nothing But The Blood

PEACE

10 For the Scriptures say,
“If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies.
11 Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it. -1 Peter 3:10-11 NLT

BENEDICTION

20 Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen! Peace be with you!
