in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday we began a new series, Our Sojourn, where we explore God’s mission and vision for Sojourn Community Church. Pastor Jonah Sage preached about our mission to reach people with the gospel, build them up as God’s church, and send them to all the world. His text was Matthew 28:16-20.  Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

How Great Thou Art

CALL TO WORSHIP

Good morning! Welcome to Sojourn Community Church! I’m _____ one of the ______. How beautiful was it to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus last week on Easter Sunday?!?! Over a THOUSAND people gathered, served, and worshipped here over three services, which is amazing… but we get to celebrate new life in Christ not just on Easter – we get to experience the renewal and hope of resurrection every day because we have a risen King who is alive and for us today. Hear his call for you to experience newness of life in him through his Word:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!

According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born

again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1 Pet. 1:3

Our God and Creator has invited us to see afresh his power to save today, let’s continue to sing to him.

Salvation’s Tide

CONFESSION

A recurring theme in Jesus’ ministry is the call to confess and turn from sin… Hear his words:

From that time Jesus began to preach his message: “Turn away from your sins, because the Kingdom of heaven is near!” (Matthew 4:17)

When we turn from our sin and instead turn to Him he promises this:

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”                         -Matthew 11:28-30  (NIV)

Let us together invite the Lord to examine our hearts, bringing our sin and suffering to the light in humility, and sing together…

From the Depths

ASSURANCE/GIVING

Though our sins had deeply stained our souls, Jesus’ innocent lifeblood shed washed our sins away and his resurrection gives us hope for the eternal life we always longed for. In Christ, we have a Savior and an advocate, let’s read this truth together:

Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us

Romans 8:34 (ESV)

And if God is interceding for us, advocating for us, and just generally FOR us, imagine how he may multiply our humble efforts… think of how he has grown this church not just in numbers, but in changed and maturing lives.

Let’s pray these words together as we prepare our tithes and offerings:

God, in the presence of each other

We bring you this offering, believing that

Your kingdom will advance through us in Christ.

And now the giving baskets will go around, and let’s continue to sing to this great Savior who lives and prays for us today! 🙂

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Because of Christ’s work on the cross we have peace with God.  And because we have peace with God we also have peace with each other. Let’s fellowship with one another for a moment in this peace 🙂

BENEDICTION

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
