by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Bobby Gilles preached a sermon on the parable of the wicked tenants from Matthew 21, in our Parables of Jesus series. Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Welcome to Sojourn! We’re so excited to worship All Together, again!! Every time we gather together, we begin with a call to worship – it reminds us that God is awesome, there is NOBODY like him, and we get to praise him with singing and clapping and listening to his word!  Hear God’s word and let’s follow it’s instructions together 🙂

1 Come, everyone! Clap your hands!

Shout to God with joyful praise!

2 For the Lord Most High is awesome.

He is the great King of all the earth.

5 God has ascended with a mighty shout.

The Lord has ascended with trumpets blaring.

6 Sing praises to God, sing praises;

sing praises to our King, sing praises!

7 For God is the King over all the earth.

   Praise him with a psalm.

         -Psalm 47:1-2, 5-7 NLT

We know that God is already with us, but let’s roll out the red carpet for him in our hearts as we praise him!!

Song Salvation’s Tide/Before the Throne

CONFESSION

Spoken

8 The Lord is good and does what is right;

he shows the proper path to those who go astray.

9 He leads the humble in doing right,

   teaching them his way.

10 The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness

all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.

11 For the honor of your name, O Lord,

   forgive my many, many sins.

12 Who are those who fear the Lord?

He will show them the path they should choose.

  -Psalm 25:8-12 NLT

Father, we confess that we have made a mess of our lives and this world.

Though you have called us to benefit the lives around us, we are often part of the problem

We recognize that we need your rule, and your guidance in our lives.

Teach us your ways, lead us in your paths. Amen.

Song God Alone written by Dave Moisan.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

Spoken (Sally Lloyd-Jones Lent Guide???)

God is slow to anger and full of compassion.

He forgives all who humbly repent and trust in his Son as Saviour and Lord.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Amen! Thank you Lord!!

-Exodus 34:6-7; Romans 8:1

One of the ways we can show our neighbors how God has changed us is by loosening the tight grip we have on our money and trusting him with our lives, plans, and money just as Jesus instructed the first Christians to do. As the giving baskets are passed around, we get to share in the great privilege of building God’s kingdom AND remind ourselves that every good gift is from him and he is all we need 🙂

Song Priceless written by Jeremy Quillo.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Since Jesus rescued us and healed our broken hearts, we can be friends with him and friends with each other; all believers can live in wonderful harmony! We call this the Passing of the Peace… let’s everyone turn to the people around us and say – “Peace sister!” “Peace brother!”

[Sermon]

BENEDICTION

Let grace, mercy, and peace be with us in truth and love from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son! Peace be with you! -2 John 3 The Message/ESV
