by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached “grace alone” from Romans 5:17-21 in the first sermon of our Rooted: The 5 Solas series. Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Hello Sojourners, if you are visiting with us we are so glad you are here. I Justin… pardon our mess… We gather here to worship the God of grace-filled love, who saves His people by grace and lavishes us with lovingkindness. Our Call to Worship this morning is from Psalm 107, join me by reading the underlined portions.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!

His faithful love endures forever.

Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!

Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.

For he has gathered the exiles from many lands,

from east and west,

from north and south.

Let them praise the Lord for his great love

and for the wonderful things he has done for them.

-Psalm 107:1-3, 31

Church, has He redeemed us? (Slight pause) Yes He has! So let us speak out, singing of His greatness, grace and love. Let’s sing together!

CONFESSION

Though God is perfectly trustworthy, we often fail to trust in his goodness. Let us run to Christ and seek his help for our turmoil and our failure.

Jesus, we are stained with sin,

Lord, you can make us clean

The storms and turmoil of life have caused us to doubt your goodness.

Save us O Lord, for we are perishing

Savior, we have become blinded by our idols.

Have mercy on us, of Lord. We believe that you can open our eyes.

We are a people in need of your grace,

give us hearts to receive it in faith.

(Adapted from Matt 8:2, 8:25, and 14:30)

God’s grace made a way… only the blood of Christ is enough wash away our sin. Let us sing our confession together

ASSURANCE

We have an incredible, everlasting hope found in Jesus Christ:

…This hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners…So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

-Romans 5:5-6, 11

If we’re friends with God, how can we not be friends with one another? Welcome each other today.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Hear the word of the Lord

When people’s lives please the Lord,

even their enemies are at peace with them.

-Proverbs 16:7 (NLT)

We have been made friends with Christ and through him we can even be at peace with our enemies. In this spirit of friendship please greet your neighbor.

BENEDICTION

(May) Christ dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. -Eph. 3:17-19
