in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches.

This Sunday I had the honor of preaching from 2 Samuel 6 (David, Michal and the Ark of the Covenant) in our Life Of David series. This was our first “All Together Sunday.” We canceled our kids classes for this day, and worshiped together across generations. I tried to preach specifically to kids as well as adults. CALL TO WORSHIP

Welcome to Sojourn! We’re so excited to worship All Together, for the first time in the history of sojourn New Albany!! Every time we gather together, we begin with a call to worship – it reminds us that God is awesome, there is NOBODY like him, and we get to praise him with singing and clapping and listening to his word! Hear God’s word and let’s shout WHO IS LIKE THE LORD OUR GOD together.

Hallelujah!

You who serve God, praise God!

Just to speak his name is praise!

Who is like the Lord our God?

Just to remember God is a blessing—

now and tomorrow and always.

Who is like the Lord our God?

From east to west, from dawn to dusk,

keep lifting all your praises to God!

Who is like the Lord our God?

God is higher than anything and anyone,

outshining everything you can see in the skies.

Who is like the Lord our God?

He picks up the poor from out of the dirt,

rescues the wretched who’ve been thrown out with the trash,

Who is like the Lord our God?

He seats them among the honored guests,

a place of honor among the brightest and best.

He gives childless couples a family,

gives them joy as the parents of children.

Hallelujah!

Praise the Lord! -Based on Psalm 113 The Message

AMEN! Let’s Sing and Shout and Praise the Lord!!

Sing and Shout written by Matt Redman, Jorge Mhondera, Willie Weeks.

LAMENT

Extemporaneous prayer…God, we know you are good and your promises are true, but life is hard, and we do what we know is wrong, and sad things happened. This week, a lot of people are really sad about the people who were hurt in Las Vegas. Lord we pray that you will bring peace and comfort… help your children to love each other like you love us. Help us to turn to you when we are sad instead of looking for comfort in other things. God, we are excited about the day when everything sad will come untrue and we will be with you forever! In Jesus name we pray, amen.

God Alone written by Dave Moisan, Brooks Ritter.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

Hear this good news about Jesus, our king!!

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever. And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” -Revelation 21:3-5a NLT

Amen!! Thank you Jesus!

One of the ways we can show our neighbors how beautiful God’s kingdom is and will be is by following His teachings about money… the Bible teaches that the church “pooled their resources so that each person’s need was met.” As the giving baskets are passed around, we get to share in the great privilege of building God’s kingdom AND remind ourselves that every good gift is from him and he is all we need 🙂

The Word of the Lord written by Rodney Clawson.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Since Jesus rescued us and healed our broken hearts, we can be friends with him and friends with each other; all believers can live in wonderful harmony! We call this the Passing of the Peace… let’s everyone turn to the people around us and say – “Peace sister!” “Peace brother!”

BENEDICTION

Let grace, mercy, and peace be with us in truth and love from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son! Peace be with you!                                        -2 John 3 The Message/ESV
