Sojourn Church Liturgy Recap – Mother’s Day 2017

in Liturgy & Sermons

Welcome to Sojourn’s weekly worship music set list review & service recap. You’ll not only read a list of the songs we led, but also the readings and prayers from our liturgy. And if you’d like to see how we incorporate liturgical art and lead the responsive readings, watch the embedded video of our entire service, or check it out on the Sojourn New Albany Facebook page. Our liturgy is written by worship director Justin Shaffer in collaboration with worship directors at other Sojourn churches. This Sunday Pastor Jonah Sage preached a Mother’s Day sermon from the biblical story of Hannah in 1 Samuel. We also dedicated 10 babies to God — 4 at our 9am service, and 6 at our 11am. My wife Kristen Gilles led the dedication liturgy (she is our children’s ministry director). On a personal note, we dedicated our baby daughter McKayla! Learn more about Sojourn Community Church here.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Welcome to Sojourn and Happy Mother’s Day! We have so much to be thankful for today as God has called us to come to him by His Word and through his Spirit. Let’s listen to this call to worship from Psalm 95:

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;

   let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving

   and extol him with music and song.

Come, let us bow down in worship,

   let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

for he is our God

   and we are the people of his pasture,

   the flock under his care.

-Psalm 95:1-2,6-7

Song Praise To The Lord The Almighty written by Joachim Neander and Lobe den Herren.

CHILD DEDICATIONS (Kristen)

Song Oh! Great is Our God! written by Brian Eichelberger.

ASSURANCE/GIVING

My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me.

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

-Lamentations 3:20-24

Many of us come here today either coming out of a trial, currently in a trial, or are about to enter into a trial. But, like we have just read, the love that God our Father has for us never ends, and he has great faithfulness towards us, his children. As the giving baskets are passed around, let’s sing.

Song What a Friend is Jesus written by Robert Lowry and Jonatan Barahona.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

What a glorious truth that the God who created heaven and earth is also our friend in the person of Jesus!! …and friends live in peace – a profound, depth of peace made possible by Jesus. Take as much time as need need to get to know the brothers and sisters around you a bit better and make it a point to give thanks for the moms and ladies!
