Liturgical Reading For The Offering That Combats Works-Based Righteousness

by Bobby Gilles

in Liturgy & Sermons

Here is a script I’ve written for the offering portion of our worship service liturgy, specifically to address the fact that “cutting a check” doesn’t make us righteous. Feel free to use it in your own worship services. And you can get more liturgical readings in our Liturgy & Sermons category here at My Song In The Night.

It’s so easy to feel like a hypocrite when we give to God’s church, because we know we don’t always serve him with all our heart – and cutting a check doesn’t make up for that.

Read the underlined portions aloud with me:

Father, accept our offerings,
not because they come from sinless hearts
but because our sinless savior
makes them perfect in your sight.

If you’re not a Christian, we’re not asking for your money. This service is our gift to you. For those who trust in Christ alone for your righteousness, the giving baskets will go around as we continue to sing.

Get chord sheet, piano lead sheet and audio for the modern offering hymn “All I Have Is Yours.”
